SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME (SIDS) - Oz scientist sees breakthrough

An Aussie senior researcher working in the US has discovered a link that could lead to a cure for the chilling kids' killer. The study has confirmed the link between serotonin abnormalities and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, bringing researchers a step closer to a cure for the fatal condition.

The study says brainstem levels of serotonin in the brain are lower in victims of SIDS.

The study, published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association, was led by Australian researcher Dr Jhodie Duncan from the Florey Neuroscience Institutes, with colleagues at the Children̢۪s Hospital in Boston.
